Financial tips

In Argentina, many SMEs lose money not because they sell too little, but because they don't keep under control the details that affect their cash flow.

One of those details is the MiPyME Certificate.

For companies with a fiscal year ending on December 31, April 30 is a key date: the certificate remains valid until the last day of the fourth month after the fiscal year-end. In addition, renewal is usually automatic for most SMEs, as long as they have the corresponding information and filings up to date.

What is the MiPyME Certificate?

The MiPyME Certificate is the document that certifies a company's status as a micro, small, or medium-sized enterprise before ARCA, public agencies, financial institutions, and third parties. Keeping it valid allows access to financing, tax benefits, and assistance programs.

Simply put: it's not just “a piece of paper”.

It's a tool that can directly impact a company's liquidity.

Why does it matter for cash flow?

Because several of its benefits have nothing to do with abstract accounting, but with something much more concrete: when money comes in and when money goes out.

1. VAT payment in 90 days

Micro and small businesses can apply for the benefit of paying VAT after 90 days. The monthly VAT return is still filed monthly, but payment of the balance is deferred until the due date corresponding to the second month after the original due date.

This does not mean paying less VAT.

It means something just as important for an SME: having more time to use that cash before paying it.

In companies with long collection cycles, high operating costs, or concentrated payments, that difference can be key.

2. Offset of the bank debit and credit tax

The MiPyME Certificate also allows access to offsetting up to 100% of the bank debit and credit tax against Income Tax, depending on the type of company and applicable conditions.

For many SMEs, the tax on bank debits and credits seems like just another cost of the financial system.

But with a valid certificate, part of that cost can become a tax credit.

Simply put: what used to be a pure loss can help pay another tax.

3. Access to tax benefits

Among the benefits associated with the MiPyME Certificate are a differentiated rate for employer contributions, priority for processing offsets, credits or credit balances, exclusion from certain withholdings and collections, and other differentiated treatments depending on the case.

The point here is not to memorize every benefit.

The point is to understand that a company without a valid certificate may be leaving available benefits on the table.

And in an SME, every cash flow point matters.

4. Better financing conditions

The certificate also serves to formally prove MiPyME status and access financing tools, assistance programs, SGR guarantees, and mechanisms such as electronic credit invoices.

This is especially important for companies that need to finance working capital, cover gaps between collections and payments, or improve their position with banks and financial suppliers.

The mistake: treating it like an administrative task

The MiPyME Certificate often ends up in the hands of the accountant, the administrative staff, or someone who will “deal with it later”.

But from a treasury perspective, it should be part of any SME's financial control dashboard.

Because not having it valid can affect:

  • when you pay taxes;

  • how much you can offset;

  • which tax benefits you can use;

  • what financing you can access;

  • and how much available cash you have to operate.

What to check before April 30

If your company closes its fiscal year on December 31, check:

  1. That the MiPyME Certificate is valid.

  2. That automatic renewal progressed correctly.

  3. That the required filings have been submitted.

  4. That there are no observations in the Electronic Tax Domicile.

  5. That the tax benefits have been properly requested or activated, where applicable.

Conclusion

Managing an SME well is not just about selling more.

It's also about keeping track of due dates, anticipating obligations, and not missing out on benefits by arriving late.

The MiPyME Certificate is one of those things that seem small until they impact cash flow.

And in an SME, cash flow is not a detail.

It's the difference between operating with breathing room or living by putting out fires.
